Holiday 22. same hull and length. Powered by 9.9 Merc 4 stroke kicker . Very adaquite and moves the boat nice for trolling and good back up power for emergency. Main power 200 hp O/B. Most boats in the Puget Sound area ( Pacific Ocean ) have a 9.9 kicker of different choices. Works well.
If it were me...I'd go with a long shaft. I agree the 9.9 will do the job nicely but typically the 15s from most manufacturers are the same weight as the 9.9s so I'd get a 15.
EZ is right on, the only difference is Carburation Same motors. I have a high thrust,Flow thru prop set up which allows equal power in reverse as well as forward. Lenght will be 20inch.
Make sure you go with a long shaft a must for rougher water applications. I have a heavy duty kicker motor bracket from garlick on my boat. Had a 15hp 2-stroke johnson with a 4 blade prop pushed the boat 5mph (gps) out in the ocean.
I now upgraded to a 25hp johnson 2-stroke push the boat a good 7 mph, plan to switch props and I think I can get maybe 8mph out of it.
I do not know about the high thrust 9.9 how well they push the boats.
My boat is a 21foot chieftain with a 3.0l merc for the main motor.

The high tjrust is a heaver lower unit and a 4 blade big prop. the flow thru prop allows the water to move the same way thru it forward or reverse. I had one on my 19 ft Glassply hard top which was a big F/G boat and worked well . The local marina has one on his 26 foot Ospray which is a very big boat and has no problem trollilg with it. My glas Ply was about 6000 lbs empty. We fish the pacific ocean in very marginal water sometimes . So what works is what we use.
