Which Load Tester?

After reading many posts about debugging electrical/charging issues, there seems to be a common input to test the batteries with a load tester (or take them to auto parts store to have load tested). So my question is, which load tester is right for our use/boat?

Looking online, there are several to choose from with varying prices from about $40 to over $1,000. Plan to use it for boat and vehicles at home.

Thank you for any input!

We use the Midtronics 500XL for all of our battery warranty tests, and I have one at the house for all of my car, and boat, batteries. Not cheap...but the only tester accepted for warranty exchange by Chrysler, Ford, AAA, BMW, etc. These can be found on eBay, but make sure they are not selling you a remanufactered unit.

Midtronics also has a marine specific 500XL model...but that would be overkill for the average boater.

Happy boating!
