I have a '82 evinrude that just plain won't go. I switched out the plugs, got new gas, cleaned out the tank, and did everything I could think of but it just does not want to fire. Anyone out there have any thoughts? what are the starting procedures for an evinrude? I have never had a motor before and got it with a boat that I purchased. They said that it froze up on them on the water while running it hard. I took off the cover and hand cranked the flywheel over and it was free again. The plugs were fouled so I replaced them, and the gas left in the tank was nothing but sludge so I cleaned it out and got fresh high test gas. It pulls easy but just does not seem like it is getting gas to the spark but it is flowing free to there. I did take the filter off and rinsed out the grit and crud that was in the screen mesh.
Unfortunaly, I cannot find a descent repair guy around here other than at the marina but they more or less change parts, they don't diagnose which gets costly in the long run. I don't mind paying to get it fixed but I can guess what the problem is with the best of them so why pay for that.......
If anyone has any thoughts or knows of someone in the area EDIT. I am near meadville pa which is 30 min south of erie. near pymatuning lake and conneaut lake. Thanks for listening.
Take care,
Jacob
