It has requirements for ignition protection that an automotive distributor will not meet.

OK - I'll accept the second references' paraphrasing by retired USCG Chief Van Brunt.

Making the assumption components that are not designated for marine use have not been tested to comply with 183.410.

When it comes to regulations, some of us want to see the actual references, or at least a reliable source. Not being disrespectful, just want to know.

And the fact that the advance curves of an automotive distributor would not be even close to being correct should make another huge reason not to use one.

an 87 to 95 chev tbi v8 distributor is IDENTICAL in all respects to a marine, unit ,yes including screened venting and advance curve,the only thing it lacks is the marine # a set of number stamps fixes that
