Hey, I have a 1989 50hp Force outboard motor that's run great for the last 20 years, but this summer I started it up, and the impeller seemed to be shot. The motor never had a nice stream flowing out, but it did spit out water, but not today. So, I dropped the lower unit, but the copper water tube fell out as well. I played with it for an hour trying to imagine where the hole was up there that it needed to go and I think I finally got it, but I guess not. After I got the motor back together, I popped off the thermostat, and fired up the motor, a small amount of water was spitting out, but very little. I took the thermostat out completely hoping that maybe that was a problem, but within 5 minutes of running in the water and barely spitting any water, the overheat alarm went off.
Is there an EASY way of hooking up that stupid water line to the motor or am I completely screwed? Do I have to pop off the heads and all and try to get to it from there? What am I up against? Should I just pay a mechanic to fix it for me? I don't have a lot of time or patience. Thanks,
Adam
