West Bend Remote controls??

I have a 1960 West Bend 16 hp outboard. Apparently the 18hp and the 12 hp are about the same motor

It has a tiller control currently. However I noticed in the middle of the motor bracket up front is a hole that is perfectly centered and looks like where one would hook up a remote steering cable.

BUT, I have no way to control the motor (speed, gear select) from up front. I am pretty sure there was some sort of option and wonder if anyone can provide insight, diagram or brochure, or photo of their motor with remote controls.

I can probably fab something up. I have a johnson control box (old sea horse, 2 levers) and gear selection looks fairly easy to rube Goldberg however speed control looks more tricky with that complicated cable system under the cowl (for the spark advance)

Help?

Not familiar with your model West Bend, but I bet you can hook up remote controls for throttle and shift...question is, which brand/type. Post your question on the Ask A Member board at www.aomci.org
They specialize in the older iron/motors.
