Hot Battery Terminal?

I noticed my negative battery terminal is very hot while running the engine. This is a intermintent problem.
What would cause a batter terminal to be hot?

Loose or corroded cable end. Toss the wing nut and get a regular nut and use a wrench to tighten the CLEANED cable end.

I just fixed a similar problem on my boat... whenever I cranked it over the Neg bat cable would smoke and get very hot.
My solution was to go ahead and replace all the battery cables and check for corrosion.
What I found was that the Neg bat connection to the motor ground was not really grounding well, so I removed some motor paint, sanded, and coated with dialectric grease.
No more problem.
