Re: Starcraft Supersport The Project Begins

Andy I got the gluvit at Day Bros in Plattsburgh ..... the best price I have seen in a long time and the interlux paint seemed reasonable too. Lakeover drive up north to Plattsburgh for decent prices.

I have been thinking of a gray bottom and blue sides.... just can't decide. I have to continue to shop a little bit at a time for supplies.... I need to slowly collect the stuff. My wallet will suffer if I did it all at once.

Re: Starcraft Supersport The Project Begins

6 Weeks ago there was snow in my yard

6 Hours ago I went on the attack

4 hours ago the boat had received a spray coat of 2 part Dupont white urethane sealer with a spray gun

2 hours later I did a roll and tip with white rustoleum

Break time :D

ezmobee, Andy, Kevin....... see I worked on my SS :p

Re: Starcraft Supersport The Project Begins

It still needs more paint and I am undecided if I am going to go in color or not......

I had intended on shooting auto paint on BUT I decided to go cheap and use rustoleum. Auto paint would have set me back $170 for white!!

Re: Starcraft Supersport The Project Begins

To be honest, I think yellow, applied in a similar stripe to the blue one on my boat....would be badass.

Bob

It was a few years ago now, but when I painted my old Starcraft tinny I was able to get the paint for around $80 for a gallon complete with hardener. I used Western brand and it held up excellent. Prices have probably gone up, but it could be done for under a hundred I bet. Just something for next time.

Another cheap alternative is tractor and implement paint by Valspar available at Tractor Supply. Under a hundred dollars for reducer, gallon of paint, and hardener. I have never used this stuff, but have been intrigued by it. I have been tempted to buy the smallest quantity (quart I think) I can get just to try it out on something.

I prefer that any paints I use have a hardener in them for longevity.

Re: Starcraft Supersport The Project Begins

Looking good Bob, I too am going with the rusto and my wife manages an auto parts store, even with her discount rustoleum won hands down over the auto paint.

Your current photo's couldn't have come at a better time...I cut my 'outside' wood for the transom today, about 16 inches shorter than what was there previously and I was a little concerned...but after seeing yours I believe I'll be alright. It's 26 inches now, which should allow plenty of room for the name on one side and a kicker mount on the other.

Care to share your knowledge or thoughts on why that piece is used?

Anyways, glad to see you back at her!

Kenny I have no idea why it is there except maybe the 85 hp needs more meat to bite. That is just a piece of 3/4"

Re: Starcraft Supersport The Project Begins

Yeah, I thought the same. I used 1/2 inch and the motor 'hook?' should be fairly snug as I plan to glass it as well......thought it may of had something to do with transferring/spread-out any vibration, but these old Johnson's aren't familiar with that word :D

Re: Starcraft Supersport The Project Begins

I left that piece the heck off of my Jupiter and it was replaced on my SS with a sweet piece of diamond plate. A wood piece there is just something else to eventually rot and leak.
