Today i was out on the lake, and we stopped to go swimming. We turned the engine off. It is a Mercruiser Alpha 1 5.7 L V8. The engine is brand new and this is only its second trip on the water after sitting for a longgg time. After we were done swimming we got back on to start the engine back up. We are new to boats, so while starting the i had the throttle on the give it some gas. When it turned over i gave it a little more, and accidentally opended the throttle. (it revved really loud). After this happed the boat started making a loud tapping noise that would not go away. We opened up the hatch thinking it was the belts, but couldnt tell. I just need to know what might be wrong.

BTW we brought it straight back to the landing and got it out of the water. Also the boat is a 1989 Regal Ambassador 255xl, and the new engine was sitting for two years w/so it may be something to do with that. It was sitting while we were restoring the boat.

Re: Engine Problems

Well, a tapping noise can mean different things to different people, but my educated guess is that you bent a pushrod.
