Two starter solenoids in an MCM 165?

I just finished installing the alternator conversion kit from Breezeworks on my MCM 165. I haven't received my $85 manual from Mercury yet, so...

The final step of the installation calls for connecting the charge lead from the alternator to the "positive post of the starter solenoid coming from the battery."

Here is my first question: what is that thing that looks an awful lot like every automotive starter solenoid I've ever seen that is bolted to the block just forward of voltage regulator?

The thing that I think is the starter solenoid is the 2" diameter cylinder attached to the starter itself that has the thick positive cable from the battery attached to it.

This solenoid and the mystery solenoid are connected by one wire.

Second question: Instructions call for black lead from alternator to positive terminal of coil. Is the black lead from alternator also positive?

Ayuh,... It's Free,+ listed in the Adults Only section of this forum....

The solenoid mounted to the Starter, is the Starter Solenoid....
The other 1 is only for the Exciter wire from the keyswitch...

It has a red lead, a black lead, and of course the charge terminal. Red lead goes to the same terminal on the starter solenoid as the charge terminal lead. The black lead goes to the + terminal of the coil.

A free download? Hum. Must have missed that because I went to the link in the adults only section and was directed to the same order page on the Mercury website that I popped $85 on. Oh well. At least I saved some ink jet printer ink.

I read all that and tried what was suggested. I also found the thread with everyone in a panic over Mercury removing the links to the manuals. Sometimes it's just easier to fork over the money. Thanks anyway.
