Last year I had the Stator & coil replaced because of no fire. This year am having starting problems, and running at idle. I changed the plugs NGK BUHW-2, are these the correct plugs? If they are what should my next step be? I was thinking that the carb needs some work, if any-body has some suggestions I would sure appreciate it. Thanks

That motor came with AC V40FFM plugs. Merc recommended AC M40FF for motors "that were 'rough running', or experienced engine cutout at low speeds."

I suspect the Champion L76V or NGK BUHW would be appropriate, and the NGK site suggests BUHW plugs.

Thanks for the information on the plugs. I have another question, I want to clean the carburator out, is there a way to flush it out without taking it off the motor, and not completely disassembuling the carburator ?

Only way to clean a carb is to dismantle it and blow out all orifices etc.

To keep a clean carb clean, you can periodically run some products such as Mercury Powertune, gas additives, or Seafoam etc through the carbs in the fuel system.

Is there anybody out there that can tell me how to bench test a coil? Can any body tell me how to trouble shoot the ignition system?
