DJ if you are looking at seats over at pull a part on National turnpike dont forget to grab the mounts off the floors of the mini vans for the bench/bucket seats :D. Their prices are pretty good $35.00 for the bench seats.

Re: 1976 viking Deckboat build

well...haven't done a thing to the boat in the last few days...
started taking the foam out of the hull...must be an easier way than what i'm doing.
Also, those two 50hp outboards...they were junk

haven't found any others lately worth mentioning.

oh well...tomorrow's another day, may actually spend it cleaning up some of my drive system parts and start getting them up on ebay.

Dj dont feel bad I have been so busy with the current heat wave I havent even had time to play with SWMBO's pond much less the boats. I had good intentions this weekend and ended up running service all weekend ( not that I am complaining ) :D.

DJ I snuck home while nobody was watching :D. I still have to run back out between 6 and 6:30 . I think the electric turkey carver we talked about will probably be the easiest way to get most of the foam out . I should be back here by 7-7:30 tonight .

Your project is looking good. I just finished a 1976 Charger Deck Boat. Looks a lot like the Viking. Styling the same anyway.

On the foam, I stood up in the open hul with a shovel. Just enough pressure to cut down through the foam. Then pry back. "POP" can take out the foam in 8 to 12 inch chunks. I was using a knife and got about four feet out of about 24 feet total in four sections between the stringers. That took me close to 6 hours for the four feet. With the shovel, I got the rest out in about two hours.

Keep up the good work!

13.36?? is that for the exterior grade?? the one's i was looking at were close to $30

I'd be happy with that.

Best price I've found here in the city is $50 CAD for 3/4" exterior grade. I almost crapped my pants when I asked about marine grade, special order only - $140 for a 4'x8'...:eek::eek:

Dj I would think with that hull it should mostly be a matter of just making shorter stringers when you put the wood back in so they are not as tall as the ones you took out . Then just add braces above the deck for the cap so it doesnt end up like the Larson :D.

Re: 1976 viking Deckboat build

strangely enough...the deck doesn't sit on the stringers...about 12" above themcurrently...
there are cross pieces cut around the stringers (and to the shape of the hull) that extend up to about 12" above the top of the stringers.

so far, the stringers look to be in very good shape.

have to get me some heavy duty black plastic bags to load all this foam into. then almost ready to tackle the transom
