I run a 1990 Johnson 175HP, today I started getting a constant on alarm, telltale still got good stream of cool water so I dont think its an over heat alarm. Alarm comes on after about 1500-2000 RPM and stays on bring it down to idle and alarm goes off. Runs fine at all speeds, is this alarm somthing to do with fuel flow? Any help would be great.

Re: 1990 Constant Alarm

A continuous beep is either overheat or fuel starvation, in your case it sounds like fuel cos' it responds to throttle.

depending on engine history , rebuild the carbs and go through the system from tank pickup to carb.

get a service manual for sure.

Re: 1990 Constant Alarm

The alarm sender is upstream of the carbs. It's not likely you'll find the cause there. Most likely it'll be something like a clogged vent, clogged pick up, a pinched or bad line or a sticking anti siphon valve. Something like that.
