Re: evinrude timing

You may have a key sheared in the flywheel. First question is do you have an Evinrude shop manual? If not, get one before proceeding. You need to remove the flywheel and it is no easy task. The nut comes off then you need a specialized puller to pull the flywheel off the taper of the crankshaft. If it comes off with out the puller you can be sure the key is sheared. Let us know what you find. Also Welcome to Iboats!

Re: evinrude timing

What's the timing supposed to be?

Your timing will likely not be 0 degrees top dead center...maybe 30 degrees BTC??? You will have to look up the info.

So, it should not line up as you might expect. Look up the timing specs!

Or, are you saying that your TDC #1 does not line up to the 0 reference point????

Re: evinrude timing

If you didn't torque the flywheel nut and make sure the taper was clean and dry, it will shear again, perhaps wrecking the crankshaft.
