CHILDREN'S OPINION OF BEER:
A HANDFUL OF 7 YEAR OLD CHILDREN WERE ASKED 'WHAT THEY THOUGHT OF BEER'. SOME INTERESTING RESPONSES, BUT THE LAST ONE IS ESPECIALLY TOUCHING.

'I THINK BEER MUST BE GOOD. MY DAD SAYS THE MORE BEER HE DRINKS THE PRETTIER MY MOM GETS.'
--TIM, 7 YEARS OLD

'BEER MAKES MY DAD SLEEPY AND WE GET TO WATCH WHAT WE WANT ON TELEVISION WHEN HE IS ASLEEP, SO BEER IS NICE. '
--MELLANIE, 7 YEARS OLD

'MY MOM AND DAD BOTH LIKE BEER. MY MOM GETS FUNNY WHEN SHE DRINKS IT AND TAKES HER TOP OFF AT PARTIES, BUT DAD DOESN'T THINK THIS IS VERY FUNNY.'
--GRADY, 7 YEARS OLD

''MY MOM AND DAD TALK FUNNY WHEN THEY DRINK BEER AND THE MORE THEY DRINK THE MORE THEY GIVE KISSES TO EACH OTHER, WHICH IS A GOOD THING.'
--TOBY, 7 YEARS OLD

'MY DAD GETS FUNNY ON BEER. HE IS FUNNY. HE ALSO WETS HIS PANTS SOMETIMES, SO HE SHOULDN'T HAVE TOO MUCH.
--SARAH, 7 YEARS OLD

'MY DAD LOVES BEER. THE MORE HE DRINKS, THE BETTER HE DANCES. ONE TIME HE DANCED RIGHT INTO THE POOL.'
--LILLY, 7 YEARS OLD

'I DON'T LIKE BEER VERY MUCH. EVERY TIME DAD DRINKS IT, HE BURNS THE SAUSAGES ON THE BARBECUE AND THEY TASTE DISGUSTING.'
--ETHAN, 7 YEARS OLD

'I GIVE DAD'S BEER TO THE DOG AND HE GOES TO SLEEP.'
--SHIRLEY, 7 YEARS OLD

'MY MOM DRINKS BEER AND SHE SAYS SILLY THINGS AND PICKS ON MY FATHER.
WHENEVER SHE DRINKS BEER SHE YELLS AT DAD AND TELLS HIM TO GO BURY HIS BONE DOWN THE STREET AGAIN, BUT THAT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE.'
--JACK, 7 YEARS OLD

Cheers
Phillip

Re: Beer

I used to drink a lot of beer myself. By that I mean I would drink a sixer during a days fishing trip. Maybe a a couple when I got off of work each day.
I finally discovered that it made my belly big and made me lazey and sleepy. I believe that when you get older (above fifty) you cant handle all that beer on your stomach. At least I had to stop, or at least slow down. I may drink a beer or two a month and I really enjoy it when I do. But thats enough for me. But then, thats just my opinion.;)

Re: Beer

Very interesting Phil.......

I could use a cold one right now that's for sure :(. I also used to drink alot of beer but I've backed off from it. I drank a half of a beer last night, and a half of a mixed drink. I use to be so bad to where my friends would hide it from me.

i'm a strong believer in moderation, but for those that can't handle moderation, and control themselves, they need to learn to leave it alone. i learned to leave Gin alone. makes me mean, and i will argue with a tree. the only thing that effects me that way.

Medication and beer don't mix, so i don't indulge, but then again i was never a big drinker.

Special occasions i have a sip, but that far and in between.

LMAO......I don't know if I've ever had any type of acohol affect me like that. First thing I got drunk on or really the first acohol I've ever touched was Mad Dog 20/20, that orange flavored one. I've heard of people getting seriously mad after drinking Mad Dog, but I don't even remember getting mad on it. I did however try to put my head out the window on the driver's side of my RX-7 with the window still up, I wasn't on any public road, just out back at the pond years ago.

Re: Beer

i think beer and boat building go hand in hand.......right up till you build the new transom on the bow end  :D

when i was 17.....me and two inseperable lifelong buddies bought a bottle of "silent sam" vodka......first time we ever fist fought.....we all woke up the next morning with the stuffings beat outta ourselves.......that was the end of that stuff.

when one of the guys got married, we applied for a liquor licence for the stag........the guy giving the licence suggested ...."guys, just get beer, other wise there is gonna be lots of fights"......(when we were younger we looked kinda .....well......rough")
we took his advice ......i remember at about 3 am someone was doing a smoke show with there motorcycle in the middle of the hall we rented.

but no fights :)

ever since then.....for me....it has been beer or wine.......

Re: Beer

Beeeeer! beer,

Get your beer here,
Drank lots of that, stopped when I got out of hand at least 2 times in a day (bikers!), and started on the hard stuff. Had to quit that all together, and on advice of the local cops got back to the beer.
Now I am older, mellowed right out, and have something to believe in. Does wonders for a guy, boats keep me docile and the odd shot of russian make it interesting.
Other than that life is ok :D

Junk is a shot in the arm for me (no pun intended), memories are wonderful animals, and I have one of every possible momento hanging off the beams and logs and walls in my living room except for bikes, don't want to remember any of that.
Thing is....its not junk, it is worth keeping because when you get bored of one thing you just shift your attention to another for a while!

Going through my boxes the other day to clean out the closet, I found a dash for one of the ultralights I built, that set me a thinking for at least an hour or two and when I came to, there was all kinds of other stuff laying around, an old Icon handheld VHF, some nav instuments and a couple of logbooks, and I even found my ol' whizwheel!

I dont want to get better!:D

I have not built my out building yet and wonder if I could get the boat in there anyway after carting all of the non-essentials out to it.

More often than not, boating accidents involve alchohol. Just a thought.

Re: Beer

I half to ask since we're on the subject of alcohol, don't mean to hijack.....Why is it that I can drink liquor (vodka last night for example ) and wake up early in the morning no matter what time I go to bed and not be hung over, but when I have a few beers I end up sleeping in and wake up hung over?

Re: Beer

a fish is garenteed to bite right after you crack a beer and light a smoke so both hands are ocupied. seriously fishing and beer go hand in hand,in moderation,RUM while on the hook at the end of the day, it makes the fish grow:)

Need more info to diagnose. What's the make/model/serial number of the Vodka?

Are you waking up still drunk? :)

I've always thought it had to do with the sugar/chemical balance of what you are drinking. I did the college thing, twice. The first time I hung out with a group that liked to party - so I sampled many different types of alcohol in largeish quantities. I did notice that the 'drunkness' was quite different based on what you drank. A beer buzz is quite different than a gin buzz, which is different than vodka. I never did figure out why, but the point is that it seems that more than just the alcohol itself gets involved somehow...

I'm not wanting to pay for any further knowledge of this, though...

Well the last time I did wake up drunk pretty much but in the past experiences I would wake up early with no outcome I would be sober. Reason I woke up like I did the last time is most likely due to the fact I went to bed late, but woke up at 5 something am in the morning. Once that wore off I didn't experience any hangover.

I drank 40% proof aristocrat that last time, the medium size bottle. I was drinking it straight . Just to think I was looking for something stronger then that Vodka:rolleyes:.
