canadian coast gaurd off vancouver island

this was sent to me by a bud........

tofino in on the west coast of vancouver island......(above seattle washington).......it is a well known area for rough water.


Absolutely fantastic pictures. Make sure you maximize your screen to get the full effect.

Dave Ashurst took them a few weeks ago (Fall of 2008) at Cox Bay near Tofino, B.C.. He had a tripod and a telephoto, and was in the right place at the right time for this coast guard lifeboat to hit some Crazy swell. Good thing those boats can roll! Not sure about those guys on the top deck, though!!!

Wow, great shots!

The crew must be strappped in up there. We have a lifeboat just like that one stationed here in Sandspit, I'm going to have to have a closer look at the seats on the flybridge next time I'm down at the marina.

They seem like great boats but not much room onboard for anyone in a stretcher.

my cousin was a coxswain (driver) USCG, 20 years. the are tethered.

No Kidding, great photos. Were they taken at night? Full moon? Can't figure out why the sky is so dark but the waves show up so well. Excellent, thanks.

What you see above the waves is trees on the far shore.
