I just bought a mercury outboard, 2 stroke, 1989, 100hp. Can I use parts from a mercury outboard, 2 stroke, 1972, 140hp. Are any parts compatible or should I get rid of the 140hp. Maybe I can get a few hundred dollars for it.
Achris, The '72 Merc's midsection has two studs that hold the gearcase on. These are compatable. Other than that.....
Actually the control cables and steering will work, but the wiring harness is likely not compatable. The key switch will also work, if you change the boat wiring harness.
