I was trying to link n sync my 1988 Johnson 110 today and according to the factory service manual the maximum timing advance can only be checked with a test wheel. I am not a marine technician so it stands to reason that I do not have said tool.
Is there an alternate method? I thought about having someone drive the boat while I put the timing light on it, will that work? I wouldent expect the factory manual to suggest an alterative method that was'nt 100% safe, so I wondered if that may be why they say only a test wheel can be used??
