Trying to disconnect to pull lower unit off. Manual and what I have seen online only makes mention of pulling the cotter key out of the transfer bar. This does nothing to disconnect the linkage. Any help would be appreciated

Remove the key, push in on the shaft, shaft should move inward 3/4 inch.
The belcrank under the carb is split. Still a bear sometime

Push in as in further up under the power head, or a side side "in"?

I say push inward in the shaft you removed the clip from, after you remove the clip. It works like a shaft inside a short shaft. when you push inward, no pressure on gearcase shiftrod, or it will not always disconnect,

Stand on starboard side of engine, push shaft to port side.

If that was fun, wait until you reinstall.
