I am a proud new owner of a OMC Sea King 15 now i just need a little info hope yall can help then numbers on the tag are as follows model number is GG18802A the S/N is 36X868752 it says something about Gale manf.

All i need to do is the Manual shift lever seems stuck in foward I dont think the problem is in the gears. I think the Shaft that the lever is one is siezed up.

And the other thing is i need high and low mixture adjustment knobs anyone have any ideas where i can find any?

Thanks in advance

It is a 1963, last year Gale made motors. Gale was a division of OMC. You may have heard of their sisters, Evinrude and Johnson? The control knobs are part number 553789 listed as no longer available. Laings outboard or Sea-Way marine may have them. or try a free want ad at www.aomci.org.

If the shift shaft is frozen up, you will need to pull the powerhead to get it out. But make sure somebody hasn't forced it into neutral without retarding the throttle. That will jam up the interlock.

Parts books are available here at iboats. You would be surprised at how many parts are still available through J/E dealers if you have the part number. Otherwise, they won't give you the time of day.

I doubt it if the shift shaft is what is stuck. If it is the interlock, that is just a matter of unjamming it. Wait....you had it running, so I assume the throttle/shift interlock is not jammed, right?

On the bright side, those motors had a weak spot, the lower crankshaft seal. At least when you get the powerhead off you can see it and take action if needed. In fact, I would replace it even if it is good.

I disabled the shift interlock to get it started
is the lower unit removable on this model
if i take the lower unit off can i just cut a new gasket out of gasket material
i have worked on lawn equipment for a summer and i am familier with the operation of a two stroke is the oil fuel ratio 16:1 on this older motor?

i guess i will take it for a test run tommorrow just use my eletric motor for reverse

well it looks like the shaft is bent not letting it rotate in bushing i am going to have to pull the power head and see if i can remove shaft in the process of trying to get it unstuck i broke the bracket

If somebody can give me an idea about where to start on removing a power head i would apprieciate it

and maybe where i can find the shifter shaft?
