i was running my 1990 small block in shallow water.now i have water in the oil. its hydro locked as well. i caught a little late. but i shut it down before it shut itself down. i pulled the heads and im gonna replace heads risers and manifold anyway. its raw water cooled so that means raw water is in the motor. what is the best way to ensure that the motor is free of mud?

Fresh or salt water? If you left saltwater in overnight it's toast. Fresh water you can rebuild it.

I don't see how having mud in the cooling system can lead to water in the cylinders. Is it possible that these two things are unrelated? The only connection I can think of is if the mud caused the engine to overheat, leading to a cracked head or a blown head gasket. If that's the case, you need to look at how long the engine was run in this condition. If, as chiefalen says, it was in salt water, your engine is probably completely destroyed.

My advice would be to sort out how the water got into the engine in the first place, and move forward from there.
