I have a 7975/70 HP, that I have carb cleaned by a marine specialist. It starts after hitting the full choke button couple of times and keeping the warm up lever high. Once it starts, it idles, and shifts fine but once turned off, I have to toggle the choke swith up again to get it starting and some time when I am turning the key to on, i have to lightly touch toggle switch 2 or 3 times before it will start again. SHould it not just fire right up once it has gone through the initial warm up. Also the emperaturs has been in 65+ so it is not cold conditions.

Any insights????

best place to start would be to check for an intake leak. Engine may not start without the choke... but once its running you can adjust the carbs to compensate for a leak. That could be why it works fine once it is running. Something a person should check all so is the reed valves. Hope this helps.

Also, be sure to check the carburetor to intake manifold bolts and be sure that there is no air leak there. It is a common problem, especially if you don't replace the gasket with a new one.

it also could be the idle speed setting adjustment screw, idling too slow, and the bump of the choke brings the idle up. could need linc n sinc after the carbs have been off.
