No "Automobile Starter" will fit it, it MUST be a marine grade starter.
are you sure this is a 3.0L engine????? if so, it's a GM. If you are sure it's a 3.0, it could be a 2.3L Ford if it's an OMC.

Automotive Starters are Can't be used on Boat motors,...
The Big Reason everybody says is that they're Not Explosion Shielded,+ are a Safety Hazard....
Which is Very True,.... They'll turn a Great day on the water,... Into a Fireball in only a Second.....
Another reason is,..
They don't have the Right wiring terminals to make the Boat motor start properly.....
