Replaced shift control cable, cannot get it to shift to forward. It will shift to reverse, but when I try to shift forward it comes to dead halt at neutral! This is a pontoon shifter console. I just took cover off. tried to shift, it came to ballbearing in the neutral position. won't go farther. does the key need to be turned on or the motor running to shift to forward? 40hp mariner, had it started,, runs great will shift to reverse and throtle up but still will not shift to forward! This is a quicksilver shifter, the detent screw has been adjusted.
