last year I bought a 1954 14 ft. Lonestar boat to fish in, it came with a johnson/envinrude 35hp big twin electric outboard, I was told the motor was built in 1957, but it doesn't run. I'm looking for some help with confirming the year of the outboard as well as where I can find parts to get it back up and running.
The numbers on the motor that I can find are 25930-07133 I've also included a picture of the motor. Any help is greatly appreciated.:D

25930 is indeed a 1957 35hp. 24:1 fuel mix. what parts are you looking for? Try vintageoutboard.com and iboats and Seaway in Seattle. The soft parts are easily available, the hard parts are harder to come by.

Look for the 'waking a dead outboard' thread here in iboats for help on getting it going again.

fantastic motor, if it has good compression and good lower unit, it can be like new and dependable, for $200-250. this covers coils, condensers, point, wires, carb kit, and impeller. all these items are in stock, at laingsoutboards.com.

do you have spark, and compression? we need more info.

i just finished checking the compression and the upper cylinder is getting 80psi and the lower 90 psi, it is also getting good spark and fuel, i havent checked the lower unit yet. i took my boat up to one of the local lakes to test how it floated (i had to do some minor fiberglass repair work to the hull on the keel) and when we was up there we tried to start the motor all it seemed to do is "click" somewhere around the starter.

clicking is probably dirty connections. There should be a rope start on that model. They are not hard to pull start. I would not start it until I changed the impeller so it will cool right. Not hard motors to work on. Compression seems a bit low to me but it will still run with those numbers and a decarb will probably bring them up. If you have good spark the coils were probably replaced.

Re: outboard year and parts?

freddyray21,
i was out working on the engine after work and cleaned up some of the connections and turned the key to see if it would start. fired right up but i only let it run a couple seconds because it does need the impeller replaced i noticed it wasnt peeing so thats the next step now that it runs then its off to the lake to finally see what this motor can do and hopefully catch some fish. Thank you all for your help though in helping to locate problems and helping me to find the parts!
