I am working on this motor, and having a problem with the fuel delivery. The old metal tank was no good and got tossed. It was replaced with the new plastic style. Now the problem is, it only has 2 prongs on the hose, and the motor has 3. I know one is fuel the other is air. What we're running into is when we prime the fuel into the filter bowl, it doesn't seem to be getting to the carb. The lines are open and not clogged. But when we prime it again, fuel squirts everywher out of the fitting going into the motor. Could we have too much pressure in the tank? Getting frustrated!!

welcome to iboats. you either have to convert the motor to a fuel pump, or you have to get a replacement tank. check your model #, i thought they did away with the 2 line tank, before 1968. your motor pumps air into the fuel tank, which forces fuel to the motor. it does not have a fuel pump to suck fuel from the tank. what is your model #, maybe we can direct you on converting to fuel pump.

The FD-11 model is a 1957 18hp Johnson. Follow Tashasdaddy's advice as above.

Certainly, it's possible. Just get parts from a newer 18-20-25 hp motor of 22 cu.in. size donor motor. You need the bypass cover, fuel pump, fuel line connector, hoses, clamps. Piece of cake.

These are the parts you need. Any 22 cu in 18-20-25 hp motor 1960-up into the late 1970s --till they changed the powerhead design. The pump in the picture is obsolete, but there are plenty of them that will fit in it's place.
