now.

Was looking at buying one of those transom savers(motor holders)but it didn't seem long enough to reach my trailer frame. After reading a few posts noticed that the bunks are supposed to reach the end of the stern, makes perfect sense now.
I extended the winch 8"s,that leaves me around 20"s to the tip of the tongue(from winch)should be fine?
That left me with 2"s of stern not on the bunks,is this ok?I have a 40hp(190lbs?) hanging off the back of a C1652V utility boat(modV jon boat)
Heres a B4 pic:

you need to get those bunks within 1" from the transom

The other poster has a good point as to your rig being incorrectly sitting on the bunks.

If it were my boat I'd have the end of the bunks under the transom where it's the strongest.

The way it is now you might crack your bottom where those bunks are ending depending on what's directly above them if you hit a hole in the road.

I'd first start by moving the boat back to the end and then check your tongue weight. You may have to reposition your trailer's axle (most trailers have several sets of holes) to get more or less tongue weight until it's correct.

They make angled transom protectors that will reach way under the boat to attach to the cross member. But if you get the boat on correctly in the first place, you can use a "standard length" one that bolts on to the cross member.

Yea, get the boat back. You are in danger of maybe breaking a weld.

Re: makes perfect sense

That was a before picture, didn't take an after picture
All i did was bring my winch up 8 inches then unbolted my bunks and moved them back 2inches.I never messed with the axle;I can still lift the boat(on trailer)with one arm so I thought it would be okay. It's a pretty light boat(under400lbs,plus motor-200lbs)..hope I dont have to move it(axle).
I was alittle concerned about the length of the tongue to the winch(around 18inches)but my tailgate doesn't hit it and I havn't jackknifed it yet so I guess it will be alright.
The bunks now are under the end of my stern,I might get longer bunks to support more of boat later

Re: makes perfect sense

wasn't sure how to do that but after a search, tried the bathroom scale check
didn't know what the scale went to so asked the wife to step on it with me but all I got was a slap; anyways,
put a cement block down put the scale on that, the reading was 103lbs
C1652V boat-about 360lbs
DT40 motor--------190ish?
gas can------------30lbs
battery ------------60?
extras--------------50lbs ...these things all towards the stern

55lbs trolling motor...bow(dont know if that makes a difference in the formula)

so 103/745(approx.total weight)gives me about 14%(13.8)
is that to high?if i get a chance i'll take it to some scales to weigh the total boat trailer, although i dont know what the trailor weighs(it max rating is 1255lbs,570kg)

Ayuh,........

I think that when you add in the weight of the Trailer,......

You'll still be in Good Shape..... Maybe a tad light.....

I prefer 10% to 15%, myself....

Re: makes perfect sense

You will know if you are still too light on the tongue weight as the other poster said the trailer will not track behind your tow vehicle correctly.

This can cause sway and tires wearing out quickly.

I knew mine was too light because it rattled like hell on the trailer ball with each crack in the road. I couldn't stand the noise so I floated and docked the boat and went back to the "parked " trailer (don't do it on the ramp) and with the two wrenches I brought with me it only took 15 minutes to remove the four bolts and positioned the wheels one hole back from the winch.

With mine, I had to do this on two separate occasions  because the first time I went the wrong way on the hole direction since this was the hole the dealer told me to use which was of course the wrong direction.

Your trailer looks to be in good condition, so it's easy to do if you have to.

Good luck!

Hopefully you've already solved your issue when you moved the boat back, but if it's still noisy on the trailer on the road, bring wrenches with you next trip to the launch!
