Re: pics of my boat project

How effective is filling under the floor with foam instead of replacing the rotten stringers

Start a new post with your question. I'll get lost in this thread.:)

Re: pics of my boat project

well here are some pictures of the seat bases i made out of plywood

seat bases are epoxied to the deck no screws are going through the deck. i dont go on big lakes with the boat so im not worried about the bases coming off the deck. the only thing i will be worried about is the back of the chairs snapping.

the bases are on good no flex in the deck when i pull on the seat.

the driver seat is on a 13 in ped. and the rest are on a 9in with a 3 in base plate

Re: pics of my boat project

Wow, that is exactly how my seats are attatched in my Glasspar, and I did not do them nearly as neatly as you did yours, they have lasted five years or so.

Now after I repainted the boat for the second time in '06, I had my daughter help me put the seats back in. She put #12 screws in 1/4" holes and I did not notice. I was in a hurry to get the rigging back on before a vacation trip.

The first time my wife and I took her out and cleared the no wake area of the marina I brought her up on plane quick. I hear a WHAM and "Arrrghh!!" and my five month pregnant wife is on her back with limbs in the air like an inverted beetle. Being the compassionate modern age guy I am I slowed the boat and started laughing so hard in fact it was a moment before I helped her up and said "You broke my seat Wench!":p

All the screws had of course pulled right out as they had been only held in the holes by a dab of 5200 on the threads.

I did not want to go with the original back to back lounger style that was OE in the boat, so I used the same pedastals and type of seats you have, and just painted the deck.

Re: pics of my boat project

i think it worked out good. i dont have screws holding the seats to the deck i came up with a better idea for that.

i glued 2 peices of 3/4 plywood together. then i put the 45degree cuts on the base. drilled a hole in the bottom of the base bigger than the bolt head and washer. so i could counter sink the head and did the same thing on the top so i could counter sink the nut. then i tightened all of the nuts down. left just enough of the bolt sticking up above the base so that i could use a nut to tighten the pedistall to the base. then the counter sink hole where the head of the bolt is i filled with peanut butter so that i would have a flat suface for the glass to lay on and also to lock the head of the bolt in place so that when i tighten the pedestall to the base the bolt wont move. and did the same thing on the top side of the base. i put masking tape around the bolts so that the epoxy wouldnt get on the threads. then when the plugs cured i cut a peice of csm the size of the base and epoxied it to the deck. when that cured i glassed the all around the base. i did that on all 4 bases . so now all thats left is to rebiuld the bow seats then i can paint it and be done with it finally. what would be a good paint to use. i was at walmart and saw a can of spray paint (light grey) that had texture mixed in it they were about $5 a can would that work.

i got the bow seats in but i still have to put the end boards on them and glass them in the rest of the way. i made them with an opening on the side so i can have some storage for the life jackets. then im going to make another seat in bewteen them to tie them together for more storage. for the anchor and ropes.

the bedliner paint is worth the expense and you can find it in about any color just do a search.

well its gettinig time to start working on the boat again. i didnt get the deck painted yet. hopefully this year. i plan on using seacast or nida bond to redo the transom im going to order that friday. my plan after redoing the transom is to flip the boat over and fix that hole that i repaired from the inside. i will post pictures of the transom work as soon as it gets warmer here.

Great work. Keep the pics coming. You might try Cabelas' tuff coat, it comes in 7 colors. It also has properties similar to bed liners.
