tACHOMETER QUESTION,

Hey guys, I need to get a tach on my boat to check the prop, WOT etc.

The engine is an 80-ish mercury 2 stroke. Are all tachometers the same or is there certain ones for 2 strokes and others for 4 stroke motors?

Most marine tachs today are powered by the alternater and are interchangeable

You have to set a switch on the tach for the number of poles in the alternator. If you can see, or have a picture of the stator, the knobs on it are the poles. If the parameter is pulses, it's poles/2
