Wife and I were thinking about remodeling the first floor powder room. (OK, I was thinking about it because it is pink and I hate pink bathrooms). Turns out my sister showed up with a brand new Porcher toilet in white (she works for American Standard). So with an impressive piece of white china sitting in the garage, we go about redoing the powder room.

The neat part is after I install the toilet (that is the darned heaviest toilet I have ever installed. Took 2 of us to hold and lower it and another to line up the bolts.) I called out of the room "who want to flush the toilet first?" and I get two kids running to the bath to flush!

Anyway, the toilet typically retails for about $800 to 1000, and I didn't think much about it until the kids flushed. It flushes very well, and very quiet. And you don't hear the water filling up the tank hardly at all. I was rather impressed. I guess there is a reason they are so darned expensive and its not just its looks.

My son is 4, and he often drops the seat and pinches his fingers, so he was impressed by the slow drop seat. He says "Papi, this is a cool toilet! Imagine if it wiped you!!!". Yep, the things that a 4 year old wish for....

Nice,

The new siphon jet toilets are the s**t. :D

Seriously, that's the Veneto II I think, Kohler makes a great unit as well.

The Champion flush system in those is cutting edge, I think that one doesn't have the newest Champion IV valve, but it might.

Watch for valve leaks. Some of the designs have trouble with the valve gasket leaking after a short time of use. It's not like the old "flapper" valve, it's a high volume tower release system to get that 1.6 gallons in the bowl ASAP for the amount of water needed to create that high power flush!

Yep, our old house had one of them expensive, state-of-the-art crappers in it. It lasted and worked well for about 30 years ... but when a gasket went bad in the flush valve, it was no longer made, and there was no way to repair it. No replacement parts would fit. I take that back, I did find a place that had the replacement parts necessary, but they would not sell them individually, only as a set ... for $500! And they would not guarantee them or take them back if they did not fit (and they admitted there was a good chance they would not fit)!

Lowe's came through with a $79 crapper that was louder, but worked just fine. :D:cool:

Some how I am missing the connection between "state of the art" and "30 years old."

When it was NEW it was state-of-the-art ... still head of the $79 jobbers today ... :D

Somehow I just knew that a toilet thread would get the Frogman to post! ;)

Re: Toilet humor

The tank has a strange looking device that Porcher calls the "Flush Tower". It dumps 1.6gal really fast, so the flush is good. I told my sister (who has three of these sitting in her garage) that she should order a few flush towers just in case they don't last too long. (pays to be pro-active)

BTW, American Standard was sold to an over-seas company. So it is no longer an American company.

AS tried to move the toilet manufacturing to China to compete with cheap imports, but so many toilets came back with major defects that they only make the cheap toilets there now.

The Porcher line is still made in Italy.
