Merc outboard id ???

I just picked up a merc 110 9.8 hp motor that has been in my fathers shop for quite a while(or at least the amount of dust on makes me think its been there years!) and I cannot locate the tag to figure out year of this motor......where is it located? ***update** found an aluminum instruction plate between the transom screw that on 1 line has "SER" and is then rubber/scratched clean....if this is suppose to say serial #........ how then do I id this motor?? it does have the top down to the flywheel off and has a electronic control with part # 339-5654a1 on it if that helps at all................

There should be a serial number stamped on the top of the block above the cyls and near the exhaust cover, some of the newer engine have a pad on the intake side of the powerhead with it stamped in also. It should be a 7 digit number

Looks like 4688815.....don't think I would have ever found that...
