Re: evenrude prop

Not knowing what prop (brand, style, and material) you have now, not knowing what speed you can currently run at wide open throttle, and not knowing what the wide open throttle rpm range is with the current prop means we (at least I) don't have a clue what you need. If someone with your exact combination happens by, perhaps they can tell you what they run. "Fishing speed" is rather nebulous term. Does that mean wide open, cruise, or trolling? You can check prop prices right here on iBoats. Click the "Marine Store" button at the top of this page right under the iBoats logo. Then scroll down and click on propellers. Enter your engine make, year and HP and you will be presented with a list of props. Click on any pitch and you will be presented with a list of manufacturers and prices.

Re: evenrude prop

Look at the prop. the numbers are stamped on the barrel or on the end of the hub. You will have to make some wide open throttle runs to know what the WOT rpm is with what you consider and average load.

A 26P Early Raker (Letters stamped, not cast), engine hight at about 2 3/4"-3" above pad will put you just about right. This should equate to 65 MPH or maybe a little better! Very common setup for the early Stratos 20' boats.

Re: evenrude prop

The Rakers were / are a pretty good prop. The early ones seem to generally be the best. There are 3 generations and the early version seems to be the best. Don't overlook a Turbo Lightning. They also have great bow lift and even more diameter (14 3/4").

Re: evenrude prop

A 13 1/4" diameter prop is for a V4 gearcase. It is possible you have a V4 gearcase, that's done to get acceleration from the 2:1 gears. So, we need to determine what gearcase you have. Count the splines. A V4 case has 13 splines, a V6 has 15.

"Fishing speed "came about because of a lack of punctuation.
should read "for everyday fishing, speed not a factor".
James, By getting your rig to its best speed you get the best mpg.

Re: evenrude prop

A 15 spline shaft will be in the V6 size case. I think you'd be much better off with the 14 1/4 (or larger) diameter type props. Some of the OT 4 blde style props are 13 3/4" but I wouldn't think anything smaller would be helpful.
