Power issues 1987 3.0

Good evening,

I went out on the lake this weekend and I could not acheive more than 3500 rpms. In the last few months I have done a full tune up, changed to electronic ignition, and rebuilt carb.

Any help is much appreciated.

Did the problem exist before you did all that work? or did it start after or during all the changes?

I want to say that it has started after. Prior to I did not pay much atention. I had a few other problems that i was dealing with. It was really hard to start when it was hot and then wouldn't stay running. All that is fixed now and i am lokking into trying to get it fine tuned.

WOT on a 1987 3.0 is about 3800 to 4200 RPM's right?

I think you might want to recheck your work. Have you ever rebuilt a carb or installed an electronic ignition before? Did you follow instructions?

Nope, 4200 to 4600 is what you should be getting.

Nope, but I followed the instructions for the ignition and had a mechanic help me with the rebuild.
