What engine?

The frost plug on my engine has this number on it #G3565575. Can anyone tell me what engine I have. The numbers on the bracket are gone.

That is only the serial number, does not id the model. I can narrow it down to somewhere between 1968 and 1976 but that's as close as I can come.

Uh oh. I hope that isn't right because I would have been taken. I was told it was a 1988. I replaced a 1978 mercury with this one and I was hoping for something newer.

I can't find any ID numbers anywhere. What should I do?

Also, when did they introduce the VRO (since I have that)?
