Re: Looking to buy. Need opinons on these....

I would say.... keep looking.
The engines are worth next to nothing, troublesome, very difficult to find someone to work on them, and old engines cost as much to repair as newer ones. And some parts are getting hard to find, and Mercury is no longer supporting these motors. These engines are already in need of repairs, which could run over $1000. And these engines are gas hogs and generally poor performers compared to other makes.

The add says the boat runs great, but you already know the engines stall in the water, so what can you believe?

The price is very high in my opinion. $5000 maybe, $4000 if the motors were run in saltwater.

That fuel tank will only last about 2.5 hours with those motors.

Roscoe, if it is a south Fl boat, at 20 years old, and it's the questionable years for the bayliner line, i think your high on the price. the motors are worth parts, and true hp is probably 90hp. the best thing there is the trailer.

I worked with the owner restoring this craft. I can assure you nothing else is needed. I would replace the gauges, they look their age.

Thanks for the replies.

Does the Bayliner have a walk around cabin? If not, for the price, I'd keep looking and try to find one that does have a walk around cabin.

Yes, it has a cuddy. The walk around area is not as deep as the Renken but it's considered a "walk around." We replaced all the cushions in the cuddy.

The Renken, needs all the upolstry redone in and out of the cuddy. The Renken has an inboard ( which I prefer ), and is a few years newer (94 vs.
87).

The Trophy would sell to me for $5500.

I kinda leaning towards the Trophy. I know the craft well and would hate to get into something else that may have issues. The engines seem fixable since they have good compressions, and runs. It may just need a tune up, carbs, fuel diaphram, and still researching for other causes.

It used to run nice untill we did a tune up by the book. Then the twins began to stall. Don't know yet.
