Merc 260 with a rochester 4 barrel. Starts but won't run under 1400rpm. Mechanic suggested a reman carb, I suggested he rebuild the existing carb. Any idea how much $ it would cost to rebuild a 1982 Rochester 4 barrel?

TIA

Buy the kit online...it's about 16-20 bucks and do it yourself. So with shipping it probably $25.

But the Gunk carb cleaner to soak it in ain't cheap, but you have to use it.

I am afraid my cigar would burst everything into flames.

I would prefer a professional do the rebuild, bench time would be what, 2 hours max?

Anyone know the shop time for a carb rebuild? Mechanic pulled it last week and it still isn't back up and running.

Way More than it's Worth.........

Way Less that That,.......

Maybe an Hour to remove it,+ tear it down,.... Drop it into the tank,.... let it soak a Day,.... Another couple Hours, tops, to reassemble, install,+ Tweek it......

You're a Few Days over schedule right Now...........

For a couple Hundred Bucks,... you could have bought an Edlebrock,+ been boating that afternoon..........

I would have preferred to do it that way but my boat is docked at a marina about 2 hours away from my house and tools. I prefer not to buy a trailer but these local mechanics are REALLY slow at getting anything done.

Rebuild was installed, still no idle, any thoughts?

Tell the tech to fix it?
Or maybe more problems; ignition, etc
