mercruiser 350 engine problems

i have a mercruiser 350 with alpha one drive in 87 four winns liberator
the problem i am having is that it will not run above 3900 rpm without breaking up it will also break-up at wide open from stop. i have just installed the motor it was ballanced and blueprinted for 5500 rpm with power in the 3500 to 4800 range, i have just had q-jet rebuilt checked fuel pump, checcked cap and rotor it will also break up when you us trim switch or any other electrical load, have tested alt it tested out perfect i am at wits end with this problem any suggestions out there

We went through a similar problem a couple years back with the same motor. We fought it for two days and after replacing several other parts, we replaced the condenser which was a new one. It cleared it right up. Just a thought.

i dont have a condenser so any other suggestions out there

Bad connections, including bad ground connections, is where to start. Is alternator putting out about 14 volts? Is this a marine cam?....
