My engine was originally run in Florida waters. It is now located in IL. I read about the sound reducing foam in the cowl being a possible hazard for the engine. Should it be removed? If so what is the best way to do so and should it be replaced after removing it? Thanks!

If it's beginning to deteriorate, yes.Remove it.If not ,I'd leave it be as long as it is still adhered well. Some guys have replaced old deteriorated foam rubber with carpet pad.Gotta make sure it's glued on securely.Prmary use is for engine sound dampening but also serves to dampen vibration buzzing as well.
