Glass Fuel Filters

The question has come up, are glass sediment bowl type fuel filters legal on a boat? By "legal" I mean approved by such organizations as NMMA, ABYC, and Coast Guard.

i really don't think so, imho, glass has no business on any boat.

I Donno,........

I just Junked Out an old 307 Chevy, OMC Stringer motor,+ It had a Glass sediment Bowl screwed in to the out side of the Fuel Pump......
And,......
I'm Pretty Sure it's Factory,..... circa the late 70s.......

Unless it's changed recently, the Coast Guard doesn't care. In fact they used them on some of their own boats back in the early '90s.

A lot of things use to be legal :)

There were no blige blowers on older boats :)


Anything your installing NOW should pass current standards if at all possable

The fuel system parts have to have pass a fire dammage test without failing for time X

This give you enough time to get OFF the boat before it fails in a fire and turns it into a BIG fire
