Evinrude? Johnson? Need model and year.

Recent purchase on 1969 15FT Renken. V4 with old generator system. Cover says Johnson Super Sea King
Electric. S/N on freeze J2398505. Transom mount says EO4343 658538 indicating a 1968 65 HP but that motor came with flywheel and rectifier according to my book and BRP.:'(

Lot of changes could have been made in 39 years, James, including swapping the cover.

I have a little more to add. The Transom mount, front tower cover, tower and lower unit are blue. The power head, motor tray, rear tower cover and motor cover are white. This may indicate that the power head has been change out. Did Evinrude paint the power head white or is this Johnson. Were there other power heads other than the '68 65HP that could have have been bolted in. All this leads to getting parts. One more, shouldn't the Plug Wires show continuity. Mine dont and I have no Spark. Have a spark from a regular piece of wire. Thanks again.

gale was white back then, the omc off spring. we had a 60hp. evinrude was blue, and seems johnson was white.

Sounds like you have a pieced together motor. Might not even be a 60. J on the powerhead serial nails it as Johnson. Blue lower end definately Evinrude. Johnson powerhead, remainder Evinrude, Super Sea King hood definately sounds like a 60 Sea King by Gale. Otherwise it would be Super Sea Horse (Johnson) and probably be a 75. Evinrudes were Starflite.

Thank you all for your input and we are getting there.
Not one to sit on my posterior I have been reading up in the manuals. The downdraft carb has the adjustable High Jets and venturi which puts the motor, 50 hp 58&59, 60 hp 64&65 and 75 hp 1960. The stroke is 2.5 inches putting the motor as 60 hp 64 to 67 and 75 hp 1960. Your information gentlemen, and it has a Super Sea Horse cover, has me leaning toward the 75 HP 1960. I am reluctant to take a head off to check the bore size. That would be fairly conclusive evidence.
If you have any other information that would help confirm or not confirm our joint evaluation then please let me know.
Also, should I be able to read continuity from one end to the other on the plug wires using my test meter. I can't.
I have put all this out in the event that it may help someone else.

laingsoutboards.com has many parts. for that engine. head gasket only about $20,00 to find out for sure.
