Afternoon all,
Mate is looking at a boat with a 200 HPDI. Repossession auction. On the left side of the upper leg are the following:
Z200NET
6G6 107202
The engine is supposed to be a 2003 model. Under 100 hours, looks clean under the cowl, wiring as new, linkages greased, hoses & fittings OK, no corrosion. Trim rams are clean, no pitting. Trim pump strong. Leg is clean, prop spins freely, no play. Exterior paint is good. No signs of corrosion anywhere under the paint.
However,I know there have been problems with these & he will get it get checked by a Yamaha tech before purchase but what are the feelings in iboat land.
Is this motor basically sound or are there inherent defects?
Boat is 23ft plate alloy, 17 deg deadrise, probably around 3500 lb . Any guesses on fuel burn at 4000 rpm.
Regards,
Peter

Great motor...fuel burn will depend on what boat it's mounted to...but usually HPDI will hang or beat 4strokes EXCEPT @ wide open throttle...they get very thirsty above 5000-5400 RPM. At 4000 she should sip like a lady...

here in the US we did have some plug fouling issues as well as a lot of lack of maint issues with the Z200.
the older single injector driver versions were a bit more problematic than the later versions with the dual driver setup similar to the 3.3L versions.
my biggest issue with repossed equipment, especially marine, is if they could not make the payments did they actually maintain it.
the lift pumps,VST filter and the medium pressure inline filter are critical maint items.

Thanks Rodbolt,
We are not going to the auction. As you say, it is not what has happened to the motor, but what did not happen. Too many unknowns.
BTW, as it is in storage at the auction house, we cannot start the motor so a compression test would be all that could be done.

Peter

if the compression is good then adjust your bid with the knowledge that the catchup maint is expensive.
on a flusher you cant tell anything as the 200 HPDI sounds like it blown up when running on the muffs.
