85hp Johnson stays in gear all the time.

My new motor stays in gear when when it should be in neutral. Any ideas why?
I hear it clicking with I move the throttle lever but when in neutral it definitely spins a lot. It also spins in the "Start" position. :-/

What is the year and model number from your engine?

are you running it on muffs, or in the water. are you sure it is in gear, on thru prop exhaust engines, the exhaust will cause the prop to turn when in neutral if running on muffs.

Possible the shift cable is out of adjustment back at the motor.
