Folks using Win2K should pop over to the GRC website (links below) and listen to the podcast #58 (4.1meg mp3) and d/l the small text file to read along with the audio file.

Seems Microsoft left the door open (again) and folks using Win2k and have all of the latest updates are at risk.

Basically, the fix is to unregister a dll file (VGX.DLL) on your system.
It's a simple fix:
Copy the following text

regsvr32 -u "%CommonProgramFiles%\Microsoft Shared\VGX\vgx.dll"

Click on Start, Run
Paste the line above into the run line and click OK
You should get a confirmation blurb that the dll is unregistered on your system.
Re-Boot your box

Here's the mp3... http://media.grc.com/sn/SN-058-lq.mp3
Here's the text file... http://www.grc.com/sn/SN-058.txt

If you're using file compression with W2k, there's a problem with that too! D/L the fix from Microsoft at:

Thanks Xcusme. I'll print this and apply it to my Bidna Computer after I change the harddrive and reload Win2k. Like my primary Pgiga, it is always on line as well.

I ran the command on my XP machine and it worked as well.
Wonder if it exploits XP as well?

That ought not affect you if you do not run IE.

Why people do is beyond me! ;)
