Hugo Chavez gets standing ovation at university

He later spoke to hundreds of New Yorkers who filled a college hall Wednesday night, saying he hopes Americans choose an "intelligent president" in the future.

"I'm not an enemy of the United States. I'm a friend of the United States ... the people of the United States," Chavez said during his speech to an audience including union organizers and professors. "They're two very different things — you the people of the United States, and the government that's installed there."

He drew a standing ovation when he said Bush committed genocide during the war in Iraq.
"The president of the United States should go before an international tribunal," Chavez said as applause filled the hall at The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. He compared the Bush administration's actions to those of the Nazis.

Singer and activist Harry Belafonte introduced Chavez at the event, while former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark also attended, among supporters who waved Venezuelan flags and chanted Chavez's name. The Venezuelan leader signed autographs as a crowd rushed to him after the speech.

My daughter is a student at The Cooper Union. I am not surprised that Hugo would talk there.

Talk about a bunch of Liberal Professors. She told me that they (the Profesors - not my daughter) smoke dope during break between classes.

While I am happy with the education she is getting, I am not happy about the atmosphere. However, I am very close to my daughter, she still ask me for advice, and she has a mind of her own.

When you say atmoshere, are you talking about second hand smoke or just liberals in general. And are you happy with the education because its good or because the professors teaching are stoned?:/8)

however your seriously wrong.
so far this year I have spent almost 40 days in VE, will be almost 60 by years end.
its a vibrant thriving place, but there is a lot of room for improvement.
if this years elections go well maybe the next president of VE will have a shot at it. however seems there is a bother with the voting machines, same ones most US states are using.
you can find protests both for and against Chavez almost every weekend in the parks and grounds around Milaflores and caracas.
most of the middle class and the educated in VE do not like the direction Chavez is taking them nor the fact he is squandering so much of the peoples money.
in VE ALL minerals are state property. that includes gold,oil,silver,copper,bauxite and a few other sought after minerals.
but if ya want some eye opening facts look at the finacial data on the CIA fact book site for the US,VE and Iran.
its sobering.

Hugo isn't the threat, one of these days we won't need his oil.

The guy from Iran is the dude that scares me.

Gold Bear, The key to your remark is your daughter can think. She does not have to buy into every idea presented but she learns to think. Also, I doubt all the prof smoke dope on breaks but that is probably a bit of an exaggeration. If she continues to thrive and maintain an open and thinking mind she will be fine.

I agree with ya spud, when the mudslides killed 30 some odd thousand we sent aid and Hugo refused it.
thats about all we could do, we cannot force an idiot to accept anything.
nice thing about the caracas area and further south, hurricanes are all but unheard of.
no tornadoes either for some reason.
gotta watch them mudslides in the mountain areas though. lucky I will be 2 hours on down the coast. about half way between poerta la cruz and caracas.
sleepy lil town of Rio Chico. one of the largest tarpon and snook fisheries in the world.
got a brand new trailer and a new E-tec 175 for my 18ft hydra-sports fish-n-ski .
gotta take the rig in saturday so they can start derigging it.
but your right almost about the university students, just wrong about the just GW thing.
I lived near the berkley campus in oakland for some years, talk about crazy folks.

until Iran actually has a demonstrable nuke weapons program that includes an actual working delivery system I dont sweat them much either.
I do sweat a small group of nuts making a dirty bomb and brining it over in a shipping container.

After six years in higher education, and now dealing with local profs (maybe thats the problem, BYU) I stand behind my comment. I have never dealt with any educator that could 'cept teach.

If you recall any of my prior comments, you would know I'm not a huge Bush lover, but I don;t hate him as bad as the wine and cheese crowd.
