Couple of comments... First off, pay $120 for a nice 18 gal or larger self pumper on wheels and roll it down to the boat for those that don't have 70 gallon tanks, and Secondly, for those complaining about the oil companies, you can thank the Gov't ( US specifically ) for taxing your gasoline, and they want to tax it even more ( Hillary not only wants to tax gas more, but she wants to TAKE oil profits from the oil companies to spend on her own whims, not to mention your local representatives edging for extra gov't income ).

The Oil companies make about .08/gallon profit, the gov't is getting .40/gal without having to put anything into processing, discovery, plant maintenance or dealing with restrictive EPA controls.

You can thank the tree huggers and local municipalities for no new refineries...no one wants the stink that comes with them, and the tree huggers don't want anyone to break soil period.

Last I heard, the US was built on companies that worked FOR PROFIT, and if any company tries to charge exorbitant prices, either someone else will come in and sell for less, or the company will sell less product. It's a consumer driven market, period.

Well gas is $3.69 on the water in Lake Norman, NC. But the girls that pump the gas are in bikini's so I guess its worth it. :)

I know, this post is worthless without pictures. I will see what I can do.

How are ya' makin' out with them pics anyways...

We need to remember something. Ten years ago (or so), the price of gas was hovering around 1.00 - 1.25 in SW Michigan. The oil companies complained that producing gasoline was not profitable because there was too much refinery capacity. So the oil companies all began a systematic program to shut down refineries. How each company decided which ones to shut down and not lose market share is a true mystery .

Anyway, with diminished refinery capacity, the retail prices slowly began to rise -- surprise, surprise! And it got to the point that anything abnormal -- from a single refinery fire to Katrina to a blizzrd -- crimps demand so much that retail prices spike.

It never ceases to amaze me that for each change of season, prices spike because of the shifting demand (we're told) from gasoline to heating fuel, and back again. You'd think the oil companies would recognize that each year that shift takes place, and they could actually plan for it.

Of course, there's the overall oil company rationalization:
The sun rose today -- we'd better raise our prices!
The sun set today -- we'd better raise our prices!

I paid 4.75 for premium (91) at Lake Almanor (Near Mt. Lassen, south of Shasta) a month or so ago. It sucks when you have no other choice than the marina...

we just went up here again, jumped almost 25 cents in a few days... up to 3.19 now... we are in northern NY on the canadian border, and when we travel to massachusetts, gas in albany is on average of 30 cents cheaper than here... IN THE SAME STATE!!!!!!

travel to montreal and it is 1.05 a liter now... with the exchange thats about 4.05 USD per gallon...

i plan to carry 2 six gallon tanks with me for our 50 hp rude, and if i get low on the water, i will drive my car the 3 miles to the nearest station to re fill... not paying the avg + .70 ar the marina...

Sadly, President Bush doesn't control the price of oil. It is up near $100/bbl all over the world.

He just ain't that powerfull.

man, you guys in the states have it easy, here in Australia, Melbourne to be exact, the price of fuel fluctuates every week. It always goes up on a wednesday afternoon to about $1.40 per litre ($5.30 per gallon). This is because 90% of the population in Australia get paid on a Thursday and the petrol companies figure that the price hike won't be felt as bad when we're all cashed up. From Friday onwards the price will drop a couple of cents per day and will usually be about $1.22 per litre ($4.61 per us gallon) by Wednesday morning then shoot up again in the arvo and start the cycle again. Allowing for conversion to US $'s....our best price is US$4.15 .....it has been this way for about 4-5 years now.... before the war, we averaged $0.65 per litre and the fluctuations would only be about 3-4 cents......it seems some poeple are getting very rich at our expense!

The refineries are not govt' owned nor are they run by the govt', they are publicly traded entities that are in business to make a profit for their shareholders.
Bush nor the Congress have any say on what the price of gas should be, that is decided by the free market system.

Funny thing how state and county boundaries control prices. Check the map

In West Michigan fluctuation is very normal also. A 20 cent jump is very normal. It has been for probably 8 years. While we pay less per gallon than you currently we are still facing the fluctuations and the uncertainty on a daily basis.

JUST A LITTLE FOOD FOR THOUGHT

I think we should trade a barrel of wheat for a barrel of oil even trade. Even if it didn't bring oil prices down it would put the farmer back in buisness. It's a known fact we need oil they need food. Fair trade I say, heck we can burn corn in the tanks and really help our farmers out.

I can't believe you guys are complaining.I paid about 5.00 us a gallon this summer.
When I bought the boat I made combining fuel economy and the boats ability to do what I wanted my priority.I had a great season and still only used about 160.00 in gas.Nothing compared to the 400.00 a month I burn in my truck.
The oil and lube to winterize cost me 85.00. What am I going to do .Not do it?Maybe I should just stay home and watch tv.See other people have a life.

I would rather spend the few bucks on gas and enjoy myself

Can't worry about the gas.The closest decent lake to my house is a 60.00 round trip for my truck.

Re: I Paid $4.42 for Gas! I'm mad as hell and not gonna take it anymore!

My marina charges $3.50 a gallon, primarily because i think the manager doesnt want to go outside in the heat and turn the pump on-the shell station across the inlet charges $2.87----i drive 110 miles round trip to the lake, so once i get there, i just try to enjoy the outing.
But i purposely bought the mercruiser 3.0 135 hp 4 cyl so i get really good economy----top speed when it`s smooth is about 40 mph, but i generally buzz around the lake at about 25 mph, so not much gas usage----it works for me.

Re: I Paid $4.42 for Gas! I'm mad as hell and not gonna take it anymore!

Yesterday the price of petrol in Melbourne (Australia) went from $122.9 cents per litre up to $149.9 cents per litre....that is by far the most I have ever seen it. to convert it for you Americans that is $4.64 per gallon up to $5.67 per gallon!!!! how do they expect the average family to get to work each week let alone enjoy hobbys/interests that require the use of fuel...our government makes most of the money on petrol in the form of taxes...both federal and state...on top of that (just to kick us while were down) they then charge a 10% goods and services tax on top of that...which essentially means that we're paying a tax on a tax!!!!...crazy!!!....this bright idea came from our Prime Minister (kinda like a president without the cool stuff like airforce one etc) who just told us in an election campaign last week that Australian families have never been better off....it could have been this comment that caused him to lose the election after being Prime Minister for 11 years!!!!...sorry...just had to vent a little.
