I'm getting confused about the proper amount of oil to unoxygenated gas is correct for my 95 25 hp Evinrude.
Is it 8 oz to 6 gallons or 4oz. to 6 gallons. What is the proper ratio? Mick

Re: fuel mix ratio

Micko,

The math works like this:

six gallons times 128 oz/gal is 768 oz. of gas.

at 50:1 you need to divide the 768 by 50 which equals 15.36 oz, which is close enough to 16 oz to not matter. Basically, it means that

768:16 is approximately the same as 50:1

So, of course (as always!) OBJ is 100% correct. By the way, 16 oz is half a quart bottle.

Re: fuel mix ratio

Sometimes it's easier by knowing how much oil is needed per gallon at a 50:1 ratio.

1 gallon = 128 oz.
desired ratio 50:1

128 divided by 50 yields 2.56 oz. of oil per gallon of gas.

3 gallons= 3 times 2.56 = 7.68 oz oil (8 oz's is good)
6 gallons= 6 times 2.56= 15.36 oz oil (16 oz's is good)

You get the idea.....(i hope)
