Single battery system, 115hp Johnson, Depth finder/gps, VHF, AM/FM, and running lights. No trolling motor. My Deka 24M5 Marine Master battery shows an open cell. What type should I replace it with? Would a dual purpose work better here, or just go back with another starting battery?

Thanks for any help.

Re: Battery replacement

You could get a different suggetsion everytime someone replies to this.

I would get a dual purpose battery if I was in your situation. I can't really give you brand recommendation, I have die-hards in mine, but lots of people like the "big yellow" batteries from wally world.

Re: Battery replacement

Thanks, I was thinking a dual purpose would do it.

I seem to remember reading something about the Everstart (Wally World) and Johnson/Evinrude not wouking well together.

Are the Optima's really worth the extra price?

Re: Battery replacement

The "Big Yellow" from Wallyworld works just fine with any outboard, boling.

I use the group 31 dual purpose battery (Everstart Marine Maxx) to start, run all my electronics and my troller. Never needs recharging except after long storage and does the job for weeks at a time.

Mine is charged by a '87 Johnny 48SPL.

Re: Battery replacement

Thanks JB. A 31 is more battery than a 24 right?
