Noise when i turn the wheel all the way to the side

I was testing the boat in the driveway today when i was moving the wheel all the way to the side it made a ratteling noise.When i centered the wheel; the noise dissapered.is this common or can it be from sittintg all winter and needs to get out.

Need more information. When you say "testing" do you mean the engine was running or not? Is your boat outboard, or I/O? Was the ratteling coming from the steering/dash area or the engine?

its an io was running the engine noise was coming from the io in the back

How long has it been since the outdrive was removed and u-joints and bearing checked?<br />It should be done every year...

had this type problem a while back. steering linkage was hitting the exhaust y pipe on full turn either direction. made a horrible noise.
