For some reason only the bottom cilinder of my 1976 35 hp chrysler will run.... No big deal I thought, did some check on the net got out my Seloc but after the following checks I kinda run dry.....
- switched spark plugs
- checked compression (90 psi for both)
- checked fuel pump,
- switched ignition units (coils, capacitors etc)
- switched contact points
- checked head gasket
- visually checked pistons/ cilinders
bottom one is a bit scored but this is the one
that is working, for the rest nothing to report
- played with the fuel/ air mix screw on the
carb
- switched inlet valves
- checked timing

That's about all I could come up with.....
any more suggestions? Except for the junk yard? :(

Did you try switching spark plug wires? My guess is yours are attached to the coils. You can still do an ohm check to see if it is burned open

Yep, as you say they are attached to the coils, so when I switched the coils they also got switched, but the problem remained in the same place......

could be a weak magnet or the stator is shot on your motor. Ask the Marine Doctor this question google him at the marine doctor forum. He has 25 years of experience working on motors so hopefully he can help you.

Re: 35hp 1976 chrysler cilinder trouble

Hi guys for those interested,
I found the problem, the inlet valves themselves were fine, but one of the seals was F#$^*ed. This caused a leak and thus vacuum & fuel problems for only cilinder.....So have one carb doesn't automatically mean it's not a fuel problem.......as I assumed. and as we know assumption is the mother of all.... anyway spent the weekend wakeboarding!!!
