Can anyone help me? I just bought a 1979 (ish) 70HP Chrysler outboard that has just been reconditioned????? Went to start it and no spark? I found a burnt out earth wire so replaced it but now i cant get a reaction from the coil? Checked the coil and other parts with a light but there doesn't seem be any reaction from the distributer? Could this earth issue nackered the dissy in some way?

Re: Chrysler 70HP Sparking Issue!!!

Really need to pin down the year. There should be a model number probably on the mounting bracket.
Three types of Magnapower ignitions are used
All are capacitor discharge systems. There is
Delta,Magnapower II and Motorola. You should really try to get a service manual to help to identify and trouble shoot. Two types of flat rectifier are used on Magna power Delta.Finned aluminum rectifier/regulator on Magnapower Motorola.Magnapower II regulator/rectifier is under the flywheel. If you don't follow proper
trouble shooting procedures you can damage the system. In the mean time it won't hurt to check all connections especially all grounds. Not just those connections involved with the distributor.
You may find an aftermarket manual right here on iboats if not maybe ebay.
